For me, it's easier than riding a three-legged pony.

For me, it's easier than riding a three-legged pony. Ummm... I hope you didn't try to hop on and ride a poor three-legged pony.

I just imagined that...I suspect most anything would be easier than riding a three legged pony.

So, with Lightroom, can you import you pix to your dated and named folder on your nominated place on your hard drive, delete the duds and then point Lightroom at that folder for further tagging etc? I seem to remember reading about an option for turning off direct importing to LR.

I seem to remember reading about an option for turning off direct importing to LR. Yes, you can turn direct importing to LR off. And, yes, you can pick and label and tag and direct to your heart's desire. My heart has not desired. When my images are imported they come into Lightroom as the year/month/date and are imported at the same time and same way into My Pictures (Windows) and are in Bridge the same way. I didn't realize that until yesterday when I checked.

What stupid stuff in LR? Mine just stay in date order??? Bridge is perfectly happy just being pointed to wherever you tell it the photos are. Lightroom however wants you to import the photos into the lightroom catalogue, it keeps this catalogue file somewhere other than where the original image is so you don't get the RAW sidecar file like you do with bridge. I just find it frustrating as I want the files where I put them and not where lightroom wants to put them. Steve you have me confused here. Firstly you can choose where LR stores the catalogues. Secondly you can choose where you store your image files. (A different drive if you so wish) And thirdly all the sidecar files are stored alongside the original raw image files. Well at least that's how my system works!!

It's probably just me Mike. it just seems to be a lot more complicated than bridge when it comes to file management to me though.
I have just looked and any files that I have worked on in lightroom do not have the sidecar files with them in the original folder. i think the problem is that I started with Bridge a few years ago and so anything else just seems alien now.

Ummm...what is a 'sidecar'? I'm assuming it's not that little cart hooked to the side of a motorcycle...

Ummm...what is a 'sidecar'? I'm assuming it's not that little cart hooked to the side of a motorcycle... A fairly accurate description. And in that cart is all the data relating to edits on the original raw file.
