I like the sky and castle, but felt that there were too many sticks poking up, I think I would just use the three main ones and lose the others.

I am kind of leaning toward Barry's suggestion, though with a bit of a crop and some more foreground...like...

I couldn't stand it, so I put one more piling back in...and I think it helps significantly.

Honest Opinion?...well on first opening this thread the first reaction was 'absolutely stunning' and to 95% of the viewing public I believe that will hold whichever way up they look at it. It has your usual Tolkienesque interpretation of landscapes but this is far stronger than the other images I have seen from you. However because we are in the finicky 5% I also am going to look a little deeper. I actually think this would have been even better with a wider angle. That may be wishful thinking though since I do not know what may have been restricting the aspect. If it has to be compressed then I would crop right but only to just remove the far right post. in fact cloning it out would be preferable.
The post in the centre I feel intrudes on the form of the castle rock and a slightly offset shooting angle (to the left?) would have removed that clash. this would only be possible with the wider angle as I have said. I am also in two minds about the heavy black area at top left. on one hand it accentuates the castle but on the other it puts the image ever so slightly out of balance.
The thing is that it is far easier to be critical of something that is near perfect since slight imperfections stand out far more...and this is near perfect for me

as soon as you said it i realised that middle post is the problem, i couldn't see the wood for the trees or the beach for the rotting posts lol, i have taken on board the other remarks about too many posts and come up with this

Well done its a lovely shot and i agree with removing the middle post. I can not decide whether the little post should stay in or out. I do not think this needs to be shot at a wider angle i think the castle would have lost some impact. I really love this shot.

I am curious as to why you felt a need to lighten both the castle and the posts. To me, it takes away some of that "Tolkeinesque" flavor you gave the original...I don't think it does anything to promote a better sense of "scene" or, in film terms, mise-en-scene.
