that uses a gaussian blur layering technique to rid the spottiness in the clouds. I am having to experiment with blend modes, opacity and the amount of blur, but I am liking the overall end result of a softer, but still sharp cloud structure.

Well not knowing what the sky was like before it is hard to compare, but the after-effect of your PP has produced a good looking sky and a nice image. Although I think the image would be stronger with the top third cropped off (deleting all your hard work) .

It essentially becomes a square crop so I did one that way...part of me likes it, part of me only so-so likes it.

Chris, that has certainly made an improvement on the original. When I tried this in GIMP I didn't get the noise but I did get banding in areas of block colour. I think it is all part of the same issue.
