I went out to one of the local bird marshes late yesterday afternoon and shot for a full hour before I realized that my settings were on JPEG instead of RAW. Doh!!! These were shot after I had corrected my mistake. I hope to be able to post some more as the week goes on. I'm still learning to shoot, let alone process, so C&C on everything is welcome. #1 This one went a little dark when I converted it to JPEG and is best viewed on black. Let me know if you think I should brighten it up a bit. #2

Janis, Both have a nice Autumn feel but I think I like the light in #2 best, though I would be tempted to crop off the bottom just below the cloud reflection.

And as nice as the water is and mostly the sky, I kept going back to your first one as my favorite, albeit sans a few distractions and a bit of enhancement to the sky and water on the right side of the image.

Thanks, Paul. Not sure I'm going to like the crop, but I'll give it a try.
Chris, you've done a lovely job with the first image; I am going to experiment and see if I can't get a similar effect. Bravo! I like it very much.
Thanks for your input, Mary.

I likethe first one best and Chris' edit finishes it off nicely. My first thought when I looked at it was that a split toning effect might look really nice but I can't play at the moment. Hopefully I can have a go later tonight.

I know this is agressive but I think a little more....................BAM!

It is aggressive but I tend to like it. How did you get the reflection so in your face bright?

All done in CEP4 Tonal Contrast Filter Highlights 25% Midtones 50% Shadows 25% Saturation 20% Contrast Type Standard Stacked Detail Extractor Filter detail extractor 40% contrast 6% saturation 6% effect radius normal Stacked Brilliance/warmth filter saturation -1% warmth 33% perceptual saturation 0% give it a try and then save it as a recipe for future use - thats what I did

I am liking CEP4. Did you buy the full filter package or the 39 filter package?

Not bad, Steve. I think, for this particular image, I prefer Chris"s version, as it more closely matches the quiescence of the scene in my mind's eye, but I do love that tonal contrast filter and have been playing with it on other shots from that night. To date, I have been rather conservative about stacking filters, so your recipe will serve me as a starting point.
This brings me to the main thing I don't like about the Nik plug-ins for Aperture that I wanted to mention to Marie. Correct me if I"m wrong, but my perception is that, with the Photoshop plug-in, until you flatten your layers, you can move back and forth between Nik and Photoshop to tweak your recipes as necessary (i.e. make multiple roundtrips and still see all your adjustments). With Aperture, I can only make one roundtrip. After I save out of CEP, for example, I can"t then go back in and "see" and tweak all the adjustments I just made. I think the same is true of the plug-ins for Lightroom. Of course, if I have saved the Nik recipe for that image, I can apply it to a new version and proceed from there, but it would be much more convenient if I could just continue working with the same version.

I can't help with Aperture I am afraid as I am a slave to the PC.
I know in photoshop you convert the layer for smart filters and then you can keep flipping backwards and forwards.
