This is my Amaryllis from 2011. I nurtured the plant over this past year, and it is rewarding me with huge blooms! 1. The first bloom is almost out and it is huge!!!!! _MG_0982m by mariehass, on Flickr 2. Pete's hand - and he is a big man with a big hand - next to the bloom itself. The bloom is about 8" in size. _MG_0995m by mariehass, on Flickr 3. The bloom spike. Note the front door knob. _MG_1003m by mariehass, on Flickr

That's not fair! We've done all the right things with ours - and all we have are green leaves. I suppose the bumper crop of blooms we had last year is all we will get - oh well.

Nick,
Not sure for you, but here is what worked for me.
Mine sat outside on the northeast side of the house through the summer into mid-October (rather benign neglect). In October, I brought in the now softball size bulb and rested it in the closet with no water or light (in the pot you see) until mid December. I then put it in my east window, (nice warm direct AM light) and watered the crap out of it. These last 2 waterings, I used Miracle Gro Bloom booster fertilizer. All along, it has had direct light. I truly was afraid I would kill it, too.
Bloom #2 is coming along, and it will be fully as large as the first. I am getting excited about having blooms in winter and have ordered another type of amaryllis.

Ours are just about to bloom. No problems there of course, with my resident Head Gardener on hand.

Rob! Shoot! I forgot! Will you post some pictures?
Chris, I am finding them fun to grow.
Steve, it was better than waiting on Santa at Christmas. At least I got something.

My not fair was directed to Rob for having the head gardener available to grow the Amaryllis. However, glad you are having fun with them...

Oooh Marie, I like that fist one of the last group. #2 is not too bad either...although the exposure is a little better for the colors in the first.
