Paul, Well Done – and not just for getting up at silly o'clock! I like both but prefer #1. It has a super range of tones, nice colours, and a sweeping vista. The composition is very good with the “flying saucer” in just the right place. In #2 the “flying saucer” is placed a little near the edge of frame and the tones are a little flat, I feel. Overall a good pair, and definitely worth getting up for.

The first image is great, nicely composed with the water horizon on the thirds and the “flying saucer” on the thirds, good colour and a great sky.

Thank Nick and Barry. I agree the first is much better. The second is a bit flat as it gave me some trouble trying to keep the sun wash on the city and get descent contrast.

Great shots Paul. The sky and early morning atmosphere are captured wonderfully. The only crit I have of the second shot is that it needs a quarter cropping off the bottom. I think there is too much murky area at the lower part of the image.

Steve, I do like this crop, although I find myself conflicted due to the loss of the building of the same shape as the mountain. Choices...choices.

Paul Love the first one for the same reasons as the other comments. The red sign on the pyramid shaped building looks a bit too bright and competes for attention. Do you think it needs to be calmed down a bit? It is more dull on number 2. Both good images. Really nice.

I lked both images but unlike the rest, I was more drawn to the second image, but like you, i thought it needed some "pop." I Jiroed it and then did a very low opacity blend overlay from the top down to about mid-point, soft blend mode. Maybe it helps a bit.

Thanks Steve and Chris. Steve, I had not notice how bright the red sign was. I will play with it. Chris, I think that worked for the buildings and even kept some of the sun was. I will have to learn that effect with Gimp. One of these days I may break down and get lightroom and PS. Aaaand Silver effects and......... ;D

Chris, I would have liked to see you work your magic on the original crop as the second one is just a bit too radical for me. Could you have done something with the murky bits, do you think?
Paul, I like both images and for different reasons. I have to say, I just love the light filtered through the smoke and fog in #2.

Thank you, Janis. That is what I like about that image as well, oh and the composition....in which the building is the same shape as the mountain up to the right and the buildings stairstep up and to the left. That second image is actually not a crop... although the first is.

That second image is actually not a crop... although the first is. Yes, the stairstepping up, I like that, too, only I saw it as stairstepping down. And I also liked the pyramid. I didn't actually take the first version of your second image for a crop, btw, I just misused the word, I guess, thinking it could sometimes be used for that which it is not. Which I'm not entirely convinced it can't, but it doesn't make for very clear communication, does it? My bad.

No worries, it had been thought to be a crop of the first image once elsewhere so I figured I would mention it. Thank you for the commentary, I am glad there are those whom see it as I do, and enjoy it for those reasons.

Nice images Paul. Mainly the first one with a fantastic sky and a beautiful panoramic view. It looks like the weather was fine
