I have no idea what my best 5 are. So here are 5 that have gained some “success” in various competitions. 1) Tweedmouth Light from Spittle Promenade. Taken after sunset in December 2007. On a tripod and so lucky to get the person in the right place. 5D 200mm f8 @1/13th ISO 800. 2) Lobster Pots at Boulmer. Taken late morning in December 2009. Hand held and an all day golden hour in Northumberland. 5D 24mm f14 @1/250th ISO 400. 3)On the Beach. Taken late morning in April 2010. Hand held and sort of inspired by the Chris Rea song of the same name. Got a sequence of the couple walking past – I like this the best. 5D 17mm f14 @1/250th ISO 400. 4)Two Benches at Bamburgh. Taken in December 2010. Hand held in fantastic afternoon light at one of the most photogenic places in the world (IMHO). 5D 32mm f11 @1/200 ISO 400. 5)Amaryllis. Taken in February 2011. Tripod mounted approximately 12 image stack – B&W with a light sepia tone. 5D 180mm f8 @1/6th ISO 100.

Yo, Nick! Now I remember the chairs! ;D Awesome work, Man. The sea and the beach must mean something very special to you. The detail on that last flower is stunning! Thanks for participating, bro'.

I don't know that these are objectively my best, but they are ones that have been well-received, or that I feel mark some kind of progress. First up, one of the first and best photos I took with my Canon S95. One of my favorite shots so far of my beloved husky-shepherd Stella. These were shot within minutes of each other this spring, when I finally started shooting manual. Both shot at Victoria Beach on Lake Winnipeg, where my family has had a second home since I was a child. A shot of the frozen lake from the pier. This was over-exposed and poorly focused, but I like it because my eye saw the breeze bend that element on the left and open up the composition, making my heart leap and my finger squeeze the shutter. It was shot in the English garden of a local city park. Edit: downsized for easier viewing.

#3 and #4 are sure eye candy for me, Janis! The way you captured the atmosphere on the shot is amazing. I wish I could go back to Tennessee and just take some shots during the winter to have some of these myself. your shot of Stella is very good, too. Thank you very much for showing these to us. Loved your work, girl!

Hey, Janis! I can see why you love all of these! I've oooed and aahred over all of these at one point or another - #1 just happens to get the spotlight, this time! I love what you say about that last one in the English garden! You shot it from your heart! Oh, I love doing that! Why is it that, sometimes, things just 'click'

Nick, every time that I see those benches and the waves and those clouds and that castle, I have serious "I want to be there" envy!

Katy, You've hit upon some of the reason why my wife and I have decided to retire to this part of the UK. It is one of many great locations around here. I hope to share those as we go forward. If you need a seaside / castle fix in the future just say the word – I have shed loads.

One of my Blogger friends has this at the top of her blog: However, I'm still really pleased with these. I've reached back a ways, into the winter to choose shots that, maybe, some people haven't seen or, at least, you guys haven't seen them in a long time. Also, I'm really pleased that I think that I have a couple more than five "best shots" from the past year! I had to cut a few out my pick that are equally favorites of mine that I think hold up to these; so, this exercise has been extremely encouraging! Not that I'm not still towards the bottom, toiling up the steep photographic learning curve. (Actually, at this point, I have no idea where I am on the curve. ) Well, all of these were taken on our property or just down the road (I don't have a vehicle, most days. ) and that's really all that I can think to say about them. I like them, not necessarily because of their reception but because I just really like them.

Katy, you really surprised me with this collection of your 5 best shots. All are keepers indeed. The lighting on #3 and #4 is just plain awesome to me. I wish I could take shots like that. Thank you very much for sharing, sistah.

You shot it from your heart! Oh, I love doing that! Why is it that, sometimes, things just 'click' Thanks, Katy. I must say it is more than a little difficult for me to match the click of my heart to the click of the shutter. One or the other is often lagging.
