For me it looks good specially when I clicked it and seen on our lightbox. Even if it is lacking some midtones due to the nature of the shot it does not bother me at all because I can still see the outline of the boy from the dark background. You did good, Brian. Thanks for sharing some of your work here.

Hi Jiro, you make an excellent point about the mid tones. I struggled with that for a bit, but really, sitting in the back yard in the dark, there weren't many mid tones! The original photo did have some, but my goal was to draw focus to only 3 things - my son's thoughtful expression, the fire, and the skewer in his hand. Leaving more mid tones only seemed to distract from these, so I chose to shrink them. Thank you for your comments.

I like the high contrast that the lack of midtones gives. It seems just a little too hard on the eyes though.
