Not to make life too complicated, but I might as well mash these two questions together.
I've noticed that Jiro had become an "Invisible User" but, now, I see that we have THREE invisible users. What's that about, then?
I wonder if we could take a vote about how many people have a small lap top screen and how many have a large one. I'm just wondering...
I put my five best photos into the thread of said name but put them in at a large size because everyone else had. When I put them in at the medium size, they just looked pitiful next to everyone else. I like seeing all of the closeup detail (Oh, mmm, I really do) but I can't see the composition because they don't fit on my screen - even when I light box them.
So, here's one person with a lap top screen.

This is always going to be an issue to a certain extent. The forum was designed on a 24" Imac but I tried to ensure that the design revolved around 800px width. With images however most people post at 800 to 1000 plus pixel width so you will lose out with a small screen. I am curious as to whether you have had issues on other forums with this.
Most forums do restrict image sizes. I belong to one forum that gets really uppity if you post greater than 700px wide and the pixel police swoop down with guns blazing if the thought of a 700 plus px image crosses your mind.
What are other members views on this?

Hi Katy,
What browser are you using? I just figured out this morning that I had goofed, and in an effort to make the site easier for me to read, I had zoomed Firefox without checking the "Zoom Text Only" parameter. As a result, large-sized photos (sized 1064p on the long side) were spanning larger than my screen. That is why I down-sized my photos in the 5-Best thread. Now that I have checked "Zoom Text Only", the text is at a comfortable size and my medium-sized photos are perhaps too small. Your large ones fit just fine on my 27" monitor. I'll check and let you know how they look on my 13-in laptop screen.
As for invisible users, anyone can go invisible by checking the appropriate box in their profile, as they could on that other forum.

Here is a simple image size guide in relation to computer screen size:
640 x 480 > good size for message boards 800 x 600 > good size for a 15-inch monitor 1024 x 768 > good size for a 17-inch monitor 1280 x 1024 > good size for a 19-inch monitor 1600 x 1200 > good size for a 21-inch monitor
To accommodate the most practical image size that can be seen from a 14" computer screen monitor to the largest, I'd say we go for a maximum size of 800px per side. This has to be agreed by all members so any succeeding posts will use this "rule" to consider all members. This will just be fine with laptops with display area as small as 14" but might be uninteresting with computers and laptops that can handles image size bigger than 800px.
For me, it's just OK to set it at 800px so those who have small screens can appreciate it, too. We can set up a poll for this if we want.

For me, I always go "invisible" because I find it a little inconvenient if members see me "online" where in fact I am out of the house doing a lot of things. So, what i do, I keep myself invisible and then check the forum if I have about 5 minutes free time in between chores. Some members prefer to go invisible for other reasons also. I don't think they do it to annoy some or be offensive to others. Just a thought.

I'm sorry Katie if my posts have caused you problems. I'm at the other end of the scale with a 27" iMac (It's my pride and joy and took a long time to save up for) so anything less than 1000px seems very small. On other forum there is a restriction on thread displays of 700 or 800px but this is relaxed if you open the image in the lightbox. Is this possible Steve?

Thanks, guys, for these responses! I'm on an 8 1/2 x 11 inch laptop monitor (that is falling off! ) It was a little loopy, at first, getting used to the threads with the large photos because the text, also, runs off the edge of the screen. I have to scroll up and down, up and down, back and forth, etc, etc. Now, I'm (extremely) obviously a die-hard member of the group. It might be a little off-putting for someone who is new and restricted like me. On the other hand, I love seeing things large enough, to....well,....see them. I just wish that I could click on an image and have the whole thing go into a lightbox. At the moment, it freezes into something that has scroll bars but can't be moved. Rob mentioned a possible solution, elsewhere, and so has Janis, here. I've tentatively looked into it but nothing fixed, so far. I'll just have to check again, in the morning. Ya know! We might get a new computer for Christmas and that would just fix everything!
