One of the fun things about having kids is exposing them to different ideas and places - expanding them - exploring the world.... and it's summer vacation! We went to the old fort #4 on Friday. What do you think?

I prefer the 1st one, Katy. The orange hues adds to the nostalgia of the scene. Very good control on the exposure if I may say.

Lovely shots, Katy. I also prefer the first one. Reminds me of movies where a frame like this is followed by someone sitting and working on that desk in days gone by.
PS: How do you become a thread hog!

I do like both of these but I am going against the flow and find the second has more impact as a photograph. Extreme ends of dynamic range with little graduation between screams for mono and it really works here. The blacks and deep greys/blues give a far more edgy and 'strict' feeling to the image.

I like this Katy. I prefer the mono to the colour version but as soon as I saw it I had another version flash into my head. I hope you don't mind

I don't think that I could have done this or post processed this a year ago. Although, my eye has always soaked in beautiful light coming through windows, like this.

and, then, to just respond generally.... I'm thinking that there are really simply two different images, here, and that's why I couldn't decide which I like better. The first is so gorgeous warm (I love the color of the wood on the ceiling) and nostalgic and just simply very homespun Colonial. The second is a study of light coming through a window into a dim room. So, Steve, thanks for your version - it always helps to open my eyes and to think differently - sometimes, more than words can do. I think that I'm still in a 'blue period', though. ;D ;D ;D and, I prefer the room dim - not dark. Now, there are three different interpretations. And, thanks, Abhi, Steve and Steve! I can't tell you how much I appreciate the feedback! And, as for being a thread hog.... it's kind of embarrassing, actually - not ladylike at all, is it! sigh....

Katy, Love the first one. Love the warm colors. I almost feel like I can walk right up and sit behind that desk. I like the conversion as well. I do believe that they both have individual strengths that the viewer can appreciate. Oh, Nat is my favorite male singer of all time. I would sing some of his songs in school and the other kids would think I was wierd.I still have my dad's old albums and have added and continue to add to my NKC collection. LOL! Ella of course is the QUEEN

Fabulous images, Katy, and I'm with Joe on preferring the first for that luscious warm light. Y'know, I think the only variation I'd like to see on that is you dressing up in colonial clothes, setting the timer, and sitting in that chair for a timeless semi-Dutch backlit effect. I imagine they don't let you sit in the chairs though... You and Joe talking about Jazz made me listen in to quite a bit of the old stuff last night, I know Janis and Manthos like it too, but I've never been able to get into it somehow. I adore the songs, and they sing them with such feel, but I can’t handle all the melodic embellishment and ornamentation......or the warbling. I'm a simple kind of woman Ex and other friends tried to get me to like jazz for many years, but it never took, so I hope that you and Joe and other Jazz fans here might start up a Jazz Appreciation thread at the Comfy Spot some day to introduce people like me to it. P.S. Just listened to my first Nat King Cole song, thanks to you, and he didn't warble once Is it just the jazz ladies who do that? I was being force-fed instrumental jazz in the past and am only just starting to listen to vocalists. (A very odd coincidence about Nat King Cole. I'd never seen a photo of him before, but head to toe he looks almost exactly like my daughter's rather wonderful first 'real' boyfriend (the one she has now) except that he's half-Chinese and half-British, but the features are so close...) OK......I'm going now
