Frankie, he's a beauty! And I love that unusual colour combination. I've never seen a grasshopper of that hue over here, but they do come in some marvellous pattern variations, especially as they go through their growth cycles. I was wondering if you've noticed that some plants make much better backdrops for photographing insects than others? I noticed that your Buddhlea is one of those very sympathetic ones. It reminds me of my matt-silver 'curry plant' which I wish more insects would choose to land on Shiny leaves are the worst though, aren't they.....as I'm sure you've discovered. I always end up with either blown whites or silhouetted insects that way I think that the Butterfly Bush flowers 'gone over' are a much better foil to your subject than if they were in full flower. I love those plants but their colours are almost fluorescent and can drown out the quieter hues of all but the most brazen butterfly ;D

He's a cutie but, I'd lose the blue flower at the end and crop in a little tighter...the blue flower wants to draw my eye away from the grasshopper...small as it is, it has a lot of flower power.

Hi, Frankie! Very handsome subject! and a lovely bokeh, too. I agree with Chris that the blue flower is drawing my attention away. It might be nice if you could clone it out, though, instead, so that there's some lovely negative space for the composition and the line of the flower stalk doesn't just run us off the edge of the frame. It looks nice in the light box (two clicks away) on flickr, too! Now, into areas that I'm not positive about....I wish that he was a titch sharper. (we're challenging ourselves, right? ) and that the whole photo was a bit brighter or had a little more 'ping'. It's something that I worked on with my "Ghostly Spider". When I PP so that there was good detail in the spider, I lost the 'ping' of the photo. I don't have a calibrated monitor, though..... Just thoughts, is all....

Very good image Frankie.Everything looks like it should be as far as exposure and focus, but do have to agree with the above as to losing the flower.

Thank you for your input. That flower was something I wrestled with. So I will play with it some and then repost a little later. Thanks again! Exactly the kind of input I needed!
