My 11-year-old niece and I spent a morning shooting macro together a few weeks ago. She chose the subjects; I set up the camera and tripod for her and then she manually focused the lens. I did the processing, without the benefit of her input unfortunately, as she is now two provinces away. This is a selection of our best from that day. I'm sure she would welcome your critique, and suggestions for improvement, as would I. #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6

Well done, Sasha! These are very good. You have achieved good depth of field, sharpness, and the lighting is good.

Thank you Sasha & Janis, these was a nice treat to start my day! All are interesting and different. I especially like #2 β I see it as a miniature Grand Canyon Horse Shoe Bend β and #5 just for it's βI don't know what it is but I like itβ ness.

Sasha...such an enticing name...you'll have to keep an eye out for her as she gets older. #5 is ALIVE!

Thanks for your comments, all. Don't know if Sasha has had a chance to see them yet, but I am sure she thanks you, too.
Nick, the last two are of an upended mushroom we found in the forest.
Mary, if I were a good teacher, I would have thought to take notes of everything we did, so I could reinforce it all for her. But we had fun and I think she might be bitten.

Sasha, well done, you! I especially like #2. You have achieved a very lovely gradation of light at the top to darker at the bottom. Lovely contrast and sharpness right through, too. That is hard to achieve in a close up, so top marks. #5 is intriguing and I could not work out what it was until Janis told us. #6 - well, what can I say? I have a love of high contrast, gritty and interesting images and this fits all of that.
