I grabbed 5 minutes waiting for the steaks to cook on the barbeque and got these.

Steve,
My preference is the spider, altho the very shallow DoF did not allow his eyes to be in focus. I like the color combinations of background and spider.
On #2, while I like the color, there is no particular place for my eyes to light?
Nice captures.

Thanks for commenting Rie.
These are not my usual type of image so it's always fun to see how they come out. I'm not totally happy with either of them, especially the spider. I was rudely interrupted by the current mrs webb telling me to stop messing around and keep an eye on the steaks.
Perhaps i will have another go today.

Spider is definitely worth a second shot...I am not particulaly fond of the little buggers, but they are fun to shoot.

I to would love to see another go at the spider Steve. It is quite sharp with great detail, just needing a little more DOF.

Another vote for Mrs Spider here and yes, another go with more dof would make her into a portrai beauty. She has lovely back markings, eh.

Thanks Chris, Paul, Kit
Mrs spider wasn't out yesterday, I think the wind was messing up her hair. I will keep an eye out for her though.
