In a other thread, there was talk about mountboard for photos and rather than hijacking that particular thread, I thought it may need a new one.
Anyway for anyone who mounts there own prints either for competitions or to sell, do you buy precut mounts, or do you cut your own.
For me I buy large sheets of mountboard 815mm x 1200mm in black, cream and white, buying in bulk these only cost me £2.81 each, and I can easily get four large mounts out of each sheet. I also have the advantage of cutting the opening to suit whatever crop I decide suits the image.
For cutting these mounts I use a Logan 301s mountcutter, which has given me good service now for about three years, cutting approx 10 mounts a month, just remember to change the blades regular for nice clean cuts (blades are very cheap off e-bay).

I'm bone lazy and very clumsy nowadays. It's a bit of a shock when all of a sudden (apparently) hands that used to fix engines and build and repair bits of aeroplanes now bust / drop everything they touch. I used to get my mounts and backing board precut from www.cotswoldmounts.co.uk/ I have not used them since we packed the house up over nine months ago so they may not be competitive any more. I used to get packs of four mounts with backing board in the 50cm x 40cm size with four different window sizes in two colours. One order did me for a years worth of club competitions. They used Daler Rowney mount board, and at the time that mount board retailed at a price that was a little more than the equivalent in the pre cut mounts. That may have now all changed.
