Yes I know Rob. It 's very subjective. I have to go and see the videos over and over and then I will try to apply and make my decision. I will be showing you my progresses as I have done before. Thank you Rob

How is this ? Silver Efex Pro 2 followed by Color Efex Pro 4. Re-do ? I wouldn't know how In fact, I am impressed. I really am. Without knowing anything of this and having only as guide my own eyes I came to this using the same procedure as before: Silver and on top Color

A processing technique that I enjoy the results of is called Bleach Bypass. When processing color film, after the developer and activation of the dyes in the emulsion, the film normally goes through a bleach bath that dissolves away the Silver grain crystals. If the Bleach bath time is shorter than specified, or skipped entirely, the image will contain both the color dye image plus the Silver grain. In Photoshop: - Load an image
- Duplicate the background to a New Layer
- Run Silver Efex Pro on the duplicate
This is Photoshop showing the original image: To the Silver Efex Pro layer: - Set the Blend to Soft Light
- Set the Opacity to 80%
This is the result: A bonus here is that I can control the effect where normal film processing means that you are stuck with what ever you get. I wanted a subtle grain effect, but this can easily be altered.

That certainly brings out that beautiful sheen on the horses flank. At this stage though I am not yet convinced of the net worth of using SEP in this technique.
For the b/w I also think that care is needed not to produce a cliched 'processed' conversion. I am starting to get the same misgivings as when I first saw 'styised' HDR application. One thing that is just gorgeous about b/w prints is the finished sheen or gloss for me it is integral part of the viewing experience. This application of SEP we are seeing removes the emulation of the sheen (I will call it sheen since but it is intangible in a way) so for web viewing there is something missing. However, I can see that these would look superb printed. This begs the question as to whether SEP is a print processing enhancement tool rather than a web viewing enhancement tool.
Are viewers going to be thinking "thats a SEP" rather than "thats a Correia " or "thats a Marshall". Does SEP depersonalise the photographers work....mmmmm

Good conversions, Antonio. I think #1 looks better with a little more whites on the histogram reading as it gives more emphasis on the baby. #2 is fine.

... Does SEP depersonalise the photographers work....mmmmm This is a good point Steve Indeed we have to use these plug-ins in a way that it can hardly perceived. What am I saying ? Why should it be used this way and not the contrary ? What is sure is that sometimes these plugs-in are used so much and so often that the images are kind of stereotypes repeated endlessly by many people. . Anyway, the plug-ins are very demanding in terms of computer. Even my rather good machine - 16Mb RAM - has problems and is in trouble processing all that information. The computer digests everything but after 10 times it becomes tired and... just returns errors like closing CS for example. Then a fresh start-up solves the problem.

These are great Antonio, I love the tonal range in the shot with the couple and baby. Excuse me: the couple and the baby ? Is that the way to mention that people ? Please say: Your son, daughter-in-law and grand-son ! ;D Thank you Barry I particularly like the young Indian boy. The details and how dramatic the image is.

My impressions after buying and working with Nik software.
I finally bought the package from Nik software. The hole thing: "The Complete collection". Expensive business ! First of all I do not understand their commercial politics: If we live in Europe we must buy from Germany. Why ? No reason what so ever ! It is certainly not an issue about customs because the software can be downloaded from the web as it happens with "physical" products. I had to pay much more for a product I could have downloaded from the Web at a much atrractive price due to currency changes. When using intensively the product I understood that it has not a complete coherence of commands. To duplicate a U-point in Viveza you push the button Duplicate while in Color Efex Pro you have another symbol for the same function for example. All plug-ins use intensively the computer. OK that is not a problem. The problem is when editing an image and saving the sequence every time you apply a plug-in, CS5 may return an error and all the work is gone s the file is "clear" and you have to start from scratch. Shame. Oh yes, there is always the excuse: It's from your computer. Not nicely configured, internal conflicts, etc. etc. I understand that we do not have to master the machine/computer to master a plug-in or a software. I don't even care about the computer ! I just want it to do what it is supposed to. Simple. I just want the programs to work the way they are expected to. Sometimes the "Nik Software Tool" just vanishes. In the middle of a work. When repositioned it has an erratic behaviour: once a setting is up, the next time is down. If we close all the "windows" the next time it opens them all. It's funny. It' s playing with us. Very nice indeed ! Very funny Do you use this software ? Do you have problems with it ? Please tell me that I am wrong. Thank you

Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing using this software, I only have Silver Efex Pro 2 and Colour Efex Pro 3, which I use as Plug-ins in CS3. The only time I have had a problem is when I have taken a image through Colour Efex Pro and then tried to take it through Silver Efex pro afterwards, I sometimes get a program error message and everything shuts down. But using them individually I have not had any problems.

Antonio - Are you using 64 bit version of CS5? I had problems getting anything but Viveza to work on the 64 bit version so I re-installed the 32 bit version and everything works fine. I don't find it processor hungry either and I only have 4GB RAM
