I've seen this ACR screen on other computers (I think only Mac's) but in my version and it is in the CS6 suite, the white and black sliders are not there.
You can just as easily do the same thing in CS6 using the threshhold masking tool but I've discovered another way and wil share it as soon as I finish getting well. Have a super-dooper nasty cough-cold and my attention span is about 30 minutes, top. Geeze, first the computer goes on the blitz, then me.

The ACR screen should look exactly the same on PC and MAC. If you cannot see the Whites and Blacks sliders it is likely that you need to set your ACR to the new 2012 process. Click on the Camera Callibration tab, the very top item needs to be set to 2012. You may well still have it set to the 2010 process. A later tutorial is planned to cover using the threshold mask within PS itself too.

Gives me no other options and this is the lastest-greatest CS6 version of ACR.

Try opening an image that you processed previously with CS5 or earlier. Do you get the box and the exclamation mark to the bottom right? When you hover over it, it says "update to current process", then click it and it turns it into the 2012 process.

I have CS6 for Mac (latest version) and the b & w sliders are there under the exposure, contrast, highlights and shadows sliders. Alt key works in same way. All very similar to LR.
