For those of you who have used Flickr discussions this is a very similar method.
You cannot link direct to your computer. Your image must be hosted on the web e.g. Flickr, SmugMug, Pbase etc. etc.
Embedding an image in your post
In your photo hosting site go to the page that is displaying the image you wish to add to F-Stop Cafe. Copy the image URL (most hosting sites have an image source URL displayed to the owner) and paste it into your F-Stop Cafe message. Highlight the URL and then click the 'insert image' tool in the tool bar above. This will place two image flags around your URL....done
Notes
Flickr image URLs will not work when pasted in between the IMG flags described above. However, you can link to your image on Flickr so that when a F-stop user clicks the link the image will open in a new window
e.g. www.flickr.com/photos/wirefox_steve/6159449788/in/photostream/lightbox/
To do this go to your Flickr stream, click the image you wish to display at F-Stop and click again to open your image in the Flickr light box. Copy the URL from your browsers address bar and paste into your F-Stop message, highlight this copied URL and click the 'Insert Hyperlink' control above the F-stop message box. This will place URL flags at either end of the selected URL.
Linking to an Image
In some ways this method of introducing an image to the forum is preferable since it opens your image in a new window. This means you can utilise the 'view on black' option at source (see example link above) and members reviewing your images can see a clean version of your image as the comment.
All you need to do is go to the page where your original image resides and copy the URL from you browsers address bar and then copy it into your F-Stop message, highlight the URL you have pasted and then click the 'Insert Hyperlink' control on the toolbar above your F-stop message.
Tip: where your hosting site allows it you can also right-click on your image and 'copy image location' instead of copying from your browsers address bar.
Good luck and if you have any problems please post here or PM an admin
FOOTNOTE: Jiro has provided additional instruction for Flickr users as follows;
1. Press the "share" button on the image you want to post here from your Flickr account.
2. Select the "Grab the HTML/BBCODE" option and make sure the BBCODE button is the one selected.
3. On the size option select the "large" size option and then on the left-click on the open window where the link is located and it will turn blue. That confirms that you are selecting the link for the image.
4. Press CTRL+C on your keyboard to copy the link to the clipboard.
5. Go back to your thread here at F-stop cafe and then just simply press CTRL+V. This command will let you past the link automatically to your post. Once you hit the preview button here inside your reply thread you can see your image posted.
