These are one of my obsessions, especially if they're almost unrecognizable as such. Here are a couple of examples. field of play four versions of the same events

You are making me very happy here Ken I just really like what you are doing so no critique except maybe a little more contrast on the first. In fact what we call the Jiro method would really work here (or a variation of the method) - duplicate the image as a new layer, invert colours on the top layer and with the top layer still selected chose the PS equivalent layer mode of soft light (I use GIMP so there will be some variations in terminology) Use the opacity slider to taste.

I find with monochromatic images, the Jiro inversion method sometime works better suing "overlay" instead of "soft" on the blend. Many times, in either mode, I will also add a mask and selectively "color" back areas I still want to be a little more dominate.
Isn't it more fun to get constructive feedback that doesn't always suggest moving a few feet to the left, or going back and reshooting on a brighter day instead of commenting on what's right there and appreciating your intent.

Thanks for the suggestions and tutorials on Jiro, which I'd never heard of, and may use at some point. However, I'm fine with the contrast in the first as is, preferring something closer to a "natural" look for this sort of thing. I suppose in many instances I find reality to be sufficiently strange without much enhancement. I assume you're referring to that other forum which shall remain nameless. If so, yes, I've gotten more useful feedback and discussion in a few days here than I get in a month over there.
