Do you know I really can't make the effort to get my camera out of it's bag. It seems such an effort and what would I do with it when I have gone through the drudgery of undoing the straps and turning it on. It will not take pictures on it's own so it will just have to wait I am feeling inspired. What about practice I hear you say..10 shots a day from now until eternity....well at a smidgen over the age of 50 life already seems far to short for that. I could join a club...but then I would have to buy a cardigan and besides I refuse to subscribe to paramilitary organisations I do have a major advantage over many in terms of joining a camera club....I cant hear a damned word they are saying. But I will have to do something since I fly out to Sarnia shortly and my mentor will be very unhappy if I have forgotten which buttons to press. I get to fly in a plane with propellers which is very exciting. Maybe I will just take my flying goggles and a box brownie. Where is all this leading...apart from an Island where they still use dolly tubs and policemen who don't wear body armor...well here really. regardless of my apathy with respect to actually taking photographs I still love the PP so I was happy enough to rummage through my back catalog

Right Steve, I can tell your in a somewhat confused state. Now we can't be having that since I already have an exclusive on being the confused one around here. Accordingly, this is what you need to do..... About taking the camera out of it's bag. Simple – bribe someone to take it out for you (I'm sure the young lady in your picture might be bribed … I mean persuaded). Then, never, ever put the camera back in the bag ever again. Tick first box. About the drudgery of turning it on. We all know your a born showman – you can turn it on any time you want. So no more tidying the shed for the umpteenth time – just take a deep breath, grasp the mighty leaver with both hands, and heave the thing to the ON position. Tick second box. About Inspiration. 50 - blooming 50! What we need from you is perspiration not inspiration! Sheesh. Tick third box. About joining a club. Look – you've got this all wrong. If you want to take pictures, join any kind of club EXCEPT a camera club. That way you can volunteer to be the official club photographer – and face no opposition or competition of any sort. You could be the official photographer for the village historical society, or the birth person and baby group, or …. you get my drift. If you must join a camera club then cardigan's are no good ( they are for the bowling club folks) – no nothing but Gore-Tex soft shell undercrackers will do. Oh, and the camera club conversation you will not be able to hear will involve cheese scones, triple chock chip muffins, and fish and chips. Tick fourth box. About flying with propellers and forgetting the buttons. Best to let the nice chap in the natty hat in the front seat look after the propellers. In the meantime you need to get a shed load of user manuals and read up about all the button pushing action they do over in Sarnia. Tick fifth box. Right – job done. Oh yes – the picture. I like it – but might like it even more with a little less colour striping. Oh and have a great trip.

Fabulous image, Steve. Oh, I am giddy with excitement for you and your trip to Sarnia! I'll be surprised if it doesn't inspire you and I am sure your mentor will be happy to teach you what you may have forgotten. In fact, she might prefer it if you were a clean slate, as it were. So don't worry, just enjoy!! And, if I don't talk to you again before you leave, please do give your mentor my love.

50...give me a break...I have warts on my bum older than 50 and I pull out my camera and turn it on every day...and shoot and process and think..and...bad excuses for you. Seri on the other hand, being the best thing which has come along your way in quite some time, perhaps can instigate your creative juices again....50...geeze.

Thank-you all for your well wishes. We are both looking forward to this meeting tremendously. I have booked my flights, renewed my passport and washed my underpants I am staying for a couple of weeks initially but we are talking about how we will get to spend more of our lives together.

Goodness! I too thought you were already lost in each other's arms, but I see it's been one long virtual embrace. Well, I'm still looking forward to the burst of creativity that your pairing engenders. Don't make us wait too long, now. And in the meanwhile, have the time of your life, both of you.

Hi Jan Seri wanted to make sure she was fully up before our first meeting. First date was based on her emergence last year but she has been slightly later this year so her instincts were spot on as usual.

Enjoy your trip, Steve. Please say hi to Seri from me as well. I am betting those before me are correct and you should be prepared for a flood of inspiration.
