This picture is part of a project I will explain later on. Meanwhile I would like your opinion on it. It is not in a studio but in a dark room with a window on the left (with a flash against the black wall) and a flash on his head.

Love it. Love your use of lighting. You captured his face which seems lost in thought.Like the shadows too. Very well done.

Both your exposure and compostional skills have always been good, but in this image, I see you have progressed up two or three levels. Nicely lit, composed and posed.

Thank you all for the kind comments What is the project all about ? It is called " Notable citizens" and the description is in Portuguese in my site for the time being but it will be soon translated. I kindly ask you to translate to get a better ideia but the essencial is to photograph people from Setúbal which are notable somehow. Politics are OUT ! Mourinho - the football trainer - is from Setubal but very hard to get the image. However, others are important in the international scene. I do photography much I mean much, by feeling, sense, flair ! I was photographing with one flash only against the black wall near the window where the light was coming from. I have seen before that it was giving some kind of softness in the areas of the person like face, coat and so on. I decided then to add the second snooted flash. All were manual. Someone hold it for me up like the Statue of Liberty. I saw it was working and I make some other photographs which were not so good because he was looking at me or... BTW: he is younger than I am just for two days and we were both born is the very same place, probably the very same room, been to high school together... He is a mathematician which Curriculum Vitae will be show on the web in some days.

I think, instead of papers at his knee, I would consider a math book, spine toward the viewer to make a subtle connection. You might go as a far as a pen in his right hand as if he is between marks.
Lastly, his eyes don't seem to be focused on anything..does it serve a puprpose that he is looking down and away?
(and, it is whole, not hole)

Thank you Chris for the hole. I mean whole Perhaps you are right but I am not going to ask him again to pose for me. Something to take in consideration in the near future Have a nice week-end

Beautiful image Antonio. Very nicely done indeed. Welcome back by the way. If I had to pick one thing I didn't like about the image it is the piece of chair I can see behind his right elbow. It looks like you have a good enough contrast on that edge to select it out and remove the chair but I am just trying to find something wrong out of jealousy maybe Superb, just superb.

Thank you Steve I "have seen" that chair since the beginning. I did not remove because I am afraid not to be able to erase it (or clone it) completely and without any traces. But I will make a try. BTW - About about diving in this international project ? Do work and lieve where you were born ? Don't know notable people ? Never mind. Go to them and tell them about the project. ! Just start !
