....that I can get rid of those dratted adverts on here when I am using an iPad? Possibly "no" will be the answer, but one of you techno-wizz people might have an answer?

Unfortunately not at the moment Kit. We have the option to pay to remove the adverts across the whole forum but funds dried up.

How much is needed?

I stopped paying to make the adds go away some time ago. I got the impression that most of the "benefit" was going toward hiding the adds from internet robots and web crawlers - who don't care about the adds anyway. If someone can tell me that my impression is wrong I shall gladly restart contributions.

The ads bother some people more than others. It costs $7 US per month or 50,000 page views. We rarely go over that number.
The 7 dollars is for the whole forum and not just per user. When our active members dwindled right down, I think we all gave up on contributing but I am not sure of the effect on web crawlers.

Yikes - just went on the "adds free" trip only to find that the route has changed. Apparently I can no longer make a payment as and when I want. I now have to set up a DD so that Pro Boards can join the ever expanding queue of organisations who wish to put their hand in my pocket - Hummmmm.

Hummmm indeed! I was quite prepared to make the odd monthly payment under my own steam and control, but a potential free-for-all with my credit card?? You have to be joking... Have had enough issues with Flickr kindly replenishing their coffers without asking first and I'm not putting myself in that position again lightly.

I'm not sure about the direct debit thing so I will look into it over the weekend.

The direct debit is one of the chpices but you can also choose a one time payment.
Another thought on the ads though Kit, are you using the Pro boards app. From what I remember on the i phone it didn't have any ads.

No, I'm not, Steve. I can see it sitting up there at the top of the screen, but I have tried a few apps like the Facebook one, which I didn't like at all. But I'll look into it.

Thank you Nick. The place looks so much tidier without all those ads. Very generous of you.

Your welcome young sir. Least I could do given your research. I have to say that the thing that really got me going was the animated adds - they drove me nuts - goodness knows how folks like Kit manage, with low bandwidth connections and tablet devices.

Well, the tablet is only temporary, Nick, so I can handle it for a while. But I will be really pleased to get back to the bus and then to my luverly iMac. And thanks for making this place ad free. Now that I know there is a one-off option, I will take a turn as well. It is a much better photo-home without all that flishing and flashing going on. You are a star!
