Since I am not allowed to bend over, stoop or pick up heavy objects until my eye heals completely, I couldn't get down to the angles I want for my first experiments with the 10-stop, Big Stopper filter from Lee. Neat filter and a bit on the pricey side. Early AM Late Afternoon - sun in the setting mode. And then, just another "oooh-ahhhhh" sunset

Since when has a D800 plus 28-300 set-up been lightweight Chris! Pleased you're recovering well enough to squint through the viewfinder as I guess you'd otherwise be insufferable. Oh and nice pics by the way. Interesting effects using your 10 stopper.

Steady on Chris, we need you in full working order! I like #1 and #3 - I fear #2 has the dreaded halos ... just leave it - get well soon!

The colors in #1 and #3 are really nice. I saw an article somewhere yesterday on the Big Stopper. Sounds interesting.

It's really quite nice on shorter exposures, but I did these two yesterday, one a 30 second exposure f/25 ISO 100 15 seconds on the first, and 16 minutes f/25 ISO 100 on the second (much later in the evening). 15 seconds on a D800 requires just about as much time to process as it does to shoot. Ok, no biggie. 16 minutes to shoot and 16 to process...now we're talking some serious downtime with the camera. It doesn't require anything but decent optics so now I think I am going to opt for a different body and lens strictly for long exposures, and the D800 to play about a bit as I wait for the exp/process on the other.

In the first, you've once again transformed the dreaded under-the-pier shot into something special.

Turn off the long exposure noise reduction in camera Chris and it will be ready to shoot immediately after the frame.

Ok, so you were only at ISO 100 but it might be worth checking if the high ISO NR makes any difference if that is switched off too. The only other thing could be the card speed. Re you using CF or SD?
