After trying for several weeks, I think I finally got a couple of frames that I like... Your thoughts and comments please.

Nice colors and I do like the creamy bokeh.

Well done! It's great to see someone put the time and effort into these difficult subjects. I love the simple compositions and uncluttered background - which is anything but simple to do - as I've discovered! The creamy single colour background shows off your subject just right. I think that all three are front focused, and that has robed you of that last vital piece of image sharpness. It's that last little "bite" that gives the feathers their texture and shows perspective / depth in the subject. #2 best illustrates what I'm banging on about. Oh, and next time - get the little dear to turn around so you get the all important catch light in the eye! HTH - I'd have given up long since!

Thank you maryloveslucy.
Nickjohnson, I know they just don't model properly do they. I just don't get it. I appreciate your feedback on the images. You are correct on the focus point for the images. So now I guess I need to go back and with that focus point and see what I can capture.

Great shots but Nick's points are valid. I'm struggling to hit the sweet spot with the auto focus points on my latest camera and have many shots that are almost there but not quite. The problem must be even greater with a tiny subject like yours and presumably a long lens with narrow dof.

What are you shooting with Fuzzy? Some cameras will allow you to fine tune the focus if a particular lens suffers with front or back focussing.

Ah yes the ability of the camera is far past mine. lol The camera is the D800e the lens is the 80-400 F4.5-5.6 AF-S VR, the actual image was captured at ISO 1000, 400mm f/5.6 1/500sec (First one was at 1/400 sec). Camera was set for aperture priority. Oh yes and still trying to figure the camera out, it is way too much fun to play with the settings.
