I use the B&W conversion filter in PS (same in LR) and do my "color" adjusting in there. Next to SEP2 using only the brushing in tools with different textures in different places. Lastly, I go back to my original color image, and work a bit in the RGB channels then blend each of these channels with my final SEP edits. It's tedious and time consuming but I find I can really milk the upper midtones far better than just with SEP alone. I still use David Byrne's exposure technique in many of my finer works especially those involving wood, roots or other gnarly stuff.

Wonderful contrast and textures. I like the sloping sidewalk, and the fact that I didn't notice it immediately. It may be close to perfect, but a part of me still wants to crop off a little on the right; I'll tell that part to keep quiet now ...

It may be close to perfect, but a part of me still wants to crop off a little on the right; I'll tell that part to keep quiet now ... I wrestled with that issue myself Ken. In theory the space either side of the window/door is similar but if one squints at the photo (a technique I often use to rid my view of some detail) then there appears to be a slight imbalance which the crop might improve. It is probably due to the door carrying more weight in the image. I'll ponder this before attempting a print.

Very nice Mike.
I find the bottom of the image slightly too dark as there is some detail there in the steps etc that is too much of a struggle to make out. There is a splurge on the wall on the upper right which I think could be cloned out and this may help with the imbalance aspect a bit.
Cracking image though regardless.
