I have been tinkering around with an idea that Rob had about placing the tutorials on a separate page for easy access and also as a feature attraction to potential new members. My solution (for the time being) goes nowhere near as far as Rob's vision but it is a start. Within the constraints of the proboards set up the only easy solution without wordpress and another transference of domain name was to create a portal or splash page. It was ridiculously difficult to get right for something that appears so simple - mainly because my HTML knowledge is very limited . So, I would like your opinions on; The concept The look and feel The functionality Browser compatibility (Rob has had some issues with IE8 - there should be no white borders around images or icons. Please let me know if there is and which browser you are using) The link below takes you to a mirror forum that I have set up for testing purposes. There is nothing in the forum. Obviously the finished item will include all tutorials to date not just the one for testing. Oh, and the montage. If you are not on it do not feel left out or that your work is undervalued It is a cobbled together affair created as a demo. The finished product will rotate the images similar to our banner at the forum. fsctest.proboards.com/index.cgi

Steve, For me the page seems to be stuck. I get the heading down to the first 4 lines of text and can not scroll down.

I'm using Google Chrome on Windows XP, the home page opens find and there are no white borders around the images.
The Link 'Join the Discussions' opens up the new forum page on top of the homepage and there is no way back, whilst the link 'Go to The Blog' opens up the Blog in a new tab.

Clicking on any of the images also opens up the forum on top of the homepage with no way back.

Steve I'm not sure, but I think you need a paragraph break or something after the section that ends 'their photographic journey' as on my browser the blog section is running on the same line, hence I'm overflowing the page width as I said to you earlier. W3schools are good for details of HTML code www.w3schools.com/html/html_paragraphs.asp

OK, I think I know what is causing this. It is a setting in the splash code that allows or disallows scrolling. FIXEDSteve, For me the page seems to be stuck. I get the heading down to the first 4 lines of text and can not scroll down.

Barry, you have to use the 'Home' control in the menu bar under the FSC logo at the top of the forum page. See if that works for you. I have the the <p></p> markers in there. I think it is my use of <br></br) to produce spaces. I am pretty certain I have included XHTML terminators and that may cause real problems with IE8 - IE8 does things the MS way and if they dont like the code you have had it. All other browsers cater for code variants. Barry, you have to use the 'Home' control in the menu bar under the FSC logo at the top of the forum page. See if that works for you. Yes that does work, but we then don't have the option to go to the forum home page or will you be adding another button.

Barry, There is a way to control it such that you only see the splash page when you first enter the forum. It will not appear again until you log out or close your browser. This begs the question of how you get back to the portal from within the forum...your idea of adding a control may be best WORK IN PROGRESSBarry, you have to use the 'Home' control in the menu bar under the FSC logo at the top of the forum page. See if that works for you. Yes that does work, but we then don't have the option to go to the forum home page or will you be adding another button.

Yes, same problem Rob is having with IE8. I will have a play with the line space code. I think I am using XHTML and 'tables' do not support that. I am also Win7 + IE8 and suffer the same issue as Nick although if I reduce my screen I can see that I have all the catagories side by side, I think 4 or 5 screens worth. =}
