I agree this is beautifully framed and I like the reflections of the water under the wing.
It's a shame that we can't see the disturbance on the water created by its 'lift off' - I think that would have added a greater sense of motion in the shot.

I walked up on him and he just "took off." I had one second to raise the camera, get a meter reading, back focus lock and shoot. I would have loved the water disturbance but as a general rule, these guys have so much wing strength often they don't make too large a ripple at all.

This is another shot in his hasty exit. I just love, like pelicans, how they can get to a point where their wingtips are just micrometers off the surface of the water, sometimes even dragging a tip a little.
