Hi all, Nice place you have here. For those who don't already know me from that other forum and the old café, I will introduce myself later. Just thought I would take a moment to test post a photo from last night's walk on the beach. This is pretty much OOC, all I have done is straighten a bit and add a touch of contrast. Any and all C&C welcome. Velvet Sunset by onesun1moon, on Flickr

Thanks, Mary. I do love it. The lake is vast like an ocean (it is in fact the 11th largest freshwater lake in the world) and it has many moods, like me. ;-)

The lake level has finally dropped, exposing sandbars that make for some interesting lines. I also like the contrast between the smooth and the choppy water. I had some more fun this morning shooting down into the shallow pools of water between the sandbars. I have been processing them as abstracts; will maybe post some later.

Love, love, love the image, Janis. I love sunrise and sunsets! When I saw this, I immediately imagine myself sitting near the landline and just admiring the view. I remember when I was 12 years old, even if times were hard then and I had a lot of worries, my feet always leads me to the bay area walking for 12 kms and sit at the shore line looking at the sunset. I always find sunsets to be soothing and just let me be with my self having no concern about the worries I have in life. Too bad we don't have a sea or a big lake nearby here in TX. All I can see are dry land, desert, and cactuses. I played around with your image a little bit and i decided to make the shot a little bit warmer on the colors. I came up with probably 4 cropping results but this one is the one that I like most. If you may, here is one possible edit on your work: What I did: 1. Using Lightroom, I changed the White Balance to have a +25 Temp and +30 tint on it. 2. Decreased the Exposure to -0.43 EV. Added some +28 Fill light, and added a +25 Recovery. 3. I saturated the Red and the Orange and then desaturate the Yellow just a little bit. Hope to see some more sunset shots from you, Janis.

Nice image Janis. I like Jiro's edit with the sun sitting more on the third. I would like to see the sand dodged slightly to bring it up a bit brighter.
Like Jiro, I love sunsets and don't very often get the opportunity+weather to take any myself so I really enjoy seeing other peoples.
Cheers Steve

Love, love, love the edit, Willie. Warming it up the way you have has made it more inviting and even velvetier. I also like the way you have brought out the light hitting the sand. I did feel it needed a crop, but I have a bit of a blind spot where it comes to this lake. Because it is so immense, I always feel I have to communicate that and so I tend to be loathe to take anything off the sides. But what is important in this shot is the horizontal layers and that is what I should be emphasizing, I suppose. Even with a simple shot like this, I always end up trying to say too much. I should have KISS tattooed on my forearm where I'll always see it. For the purposes of translating Lightroom into Aperture 3, do your WB, Fill and Recovery numbers represent percentages or absolute values?

I try never to miss the sunset while at the lake. There are never two the same. This cottage area is on a peninsula and some people are lucky (or rich) enough to have a view of both the sunrise and the sunset.

For the purposes of translating Lightroom into Aperture 3, do your WB, Fill and Recovery numbers represent percentages or absolute values? Janis, This might help you translate the adjustment from LR to Aperture: WHITE BALANCE SLIDERS: TEMP range: From -100 to +100. TINT range: From -100 to +100. EXPOSURE: From -4 to +4 range. RECOVERY: From 0 to 100. FILL LIGHT: From 0 to 100. BLACKS: From 0 to 100. CLARITY: From 0 to 100.

Hi Janis, that's a really nice image. It feels almost like an abstract. Jiro's edit makes it even more pleasing.

Thanks, Giannis. Nature abstracts is probably the genre I am most attracted to, at this point in time anyway.
