General
This board is for the use of members who wish to receive comments and critique on their photographic images. We have few house rules but please observe the following:
You may post nudes but please provide a warning in the Title. Please do not post any material that is of a pornographic nature or contains excessive violence. Artistic license will be taken into consideration but material that is deemed to be of an offensive nature will be removed without warning.
It goes without saying that you should only post your own work. If you feel you need to reference another photographers work please use a link rather than embedding the content within your post. Full credit should always be given to third parties
Providing Comments and Critique
Photographers posting in this section wish to receive honest comments and critique of their work. This is not always going to be what people may wish to hear or agree with. Please keep things civil and try to provide constructive criticism. One liners and expletives (e.g. "wow", "great composition") are almost never useful to a photographer seeking to improve their work. Please consider the following when providing (C&C)
- How does the image make you feel any why.
- Does the image fit the photographers description or brief?
- Does the composition work? Is the shooting angle appropriate. Can these be improved and how.
- Is the lighting appropriate to the subject and 'feel' of the image - can it be improved upon and how?
- Are their technical issues e.g. excessive noise, chromatic aberration, poor focus, white balancing and exposure. Point these out and more importantly why they may have occurred
- Comment on the use of focus blur. Is it appropriate? Does it add or subtract from the impact of the image?
- Give positive feedback as well as any negative feedback.
- We aim to provide C&C to all photographers at all levels of competence and creative ability. Recognise a photographers current skill level and tailor your C&C accordingly. The most useful learning comes from observing the developing photographers errors please encourage new comers.
Receiving Comments & Critique
Try to accept C&C with grace. It will not always be what you wish to hear but if you disagree with comments provide please say why you disagree. Most photographic images are subjective in terms of appraisal and it is useful to understand why views differ. no one will learn from bun fights and slanging matches so try to understand why comments are being made. The bottom line is you can choose not to accept anothers viewpoint.
