I was dusting my own gallery off with a yard brush and some Jeyes fluid when I had a thought. It was the only thought today so it is as lonely as my gallery. I am tempted to create a series of galleries, no comments no discussion just a showcase. - All the images used for the photo banner on the forum home page
- All the images featuring in the each of the assignments (although that may be duplicating effort)
- Admins choices one gallery for each admin (at the risk of members not speaking to me for weeks)
It just seems like a good idea to get all the images in one place. I also thought about getting members to vote for the image of the month. One image per member per month and then we vote for our favorite...although it has to be said that that sort of thing really got on peoples goat in certain other forums. So lets have your thoughts on this

Having more than one gallery is a good idea Steve.I like the idea of the one for the banner images and the admins galleries. The gallery for the assignments should be limited probably to one image from each set of images posted in the assignment for the month to keep it from growing to large very fast.

uh, oh! You didn't catch the head full of air from me, I hope!? It's always fun to find a little treasure trove of photos to scroll through for inspiration or just to remember - like an album. It was so fun, today, looking at Willie's collection that charted his growth.

Yeah, and I've started to realize that 500px is suspiciously similar to a monthly comp. meh.

One image per member per month and then we vote for our favorite. Oh puh-lease - once we get up to 500 or so members.... Don't get me wrong. I am all for putting up images and commenting and critiquing them etc etc. But...there are sooo many other photography websites out there #waves arms violently# where we can enter competitions and vote if we so wish. My dear wish is that we are different and don't go down that route. Now, that was so much of a kneejerk reaction that I'm gonna have to re-look at your other suggestions in a different post.

I agree with the first two. It is a nice idea. About the assignments, maybe each participant should choose only one. Or perhaps we could just choose ten, that portray the word assigned the best, to make it to the gallery. I don't understand the third however. Could you explain it a little Steve? I also thought about getting members to vote for the image of the month. All about it has been said above.

Oh puh-lease - once we get up to 500 or so members.... Ha, I suspected I would get these reactions to a monthly comp but being the peoples forum I felt I had to test the water with this. Some enjoy the comps and I can understand that, personally I have the same opinions as the rest of you who have posted. I'm here to chit chat with my friends and not to compete...
Don, I agree with you totally, that is a big part of what we are trying to do here. I don't understand the third however. Could you explain it a little Steve? Sorry Giannis, it is not clear is it The idea is that each member of staff (I hate that term)...facilitator?...no that sounds like a term from a project management handbook...anyway the three admins will create a gallery each and add their favourite images as and when they see them. Thinking about this today I am not sure I like the idea but the intent was not just to include the best of the best but images that show members development.

Now I like the way you have set out the monthly assignments, these are not competitive, you don't have to get involved if you don't want to, but you can show off your work here.
I feel, that the members gallery would be something to try and push a bit more, maybe allowing members to have a few gallerys (as some of us have a varied interest, so I would probably set up a monochrome landscape gallery, a infrared gallery and maybe a sports gallery). Limit the amount of images that you can have in a gallery, but so that we can add and remove any images at anytime.

Barry You can do this now. Just create a thread or threads in the 'Members Gallery'. That is all my gallery is. You can create as many as you wish (although I may not have given that impression in my original guide www.f-stop-cafe.com/index.cgi?board=howto&action=display&thread=347I was making the suggestions above because nobody seems to be using it and as Katy has said its always good to flick through other photographers images without having to hunt around in posts

I have looked at the members gallery, and yes I will set one or two out soon.
