"lumpen proletarians" According to Marx the lumpenproletariat have no real motive for revolution. In fact they would support a class structure because their existence is dependent upon the bourgeoisie. This all sounds terribly British. We can be thankful to the lumpenproletariat that Britain side stepped revolution when it was the raging trend across the rest of Europe. In fact it really means so long as you provide a fish and chip supper and 20 woodbines we will vote for you every time provided we retain the god given right to have a good moan about along the way Marx is quite entertaining these days especially with collective hindsight we can see the riven flaws...I dont think anyone could ever have a giggle about the philosophy of Malthus and Trevelyn though...maybe more should have giggled at the time. Sorry its been one of those days

I am not that good, am I ? No. But Portugal needs all the help it can get at the moment. And Spain... and Italy... and Greece.. and America.. and Britland... and well, everyone really. Isn't it reassuring to know that when it all goes down the tubes we will still be left with our Nikon D3s and Canon 5Ds, and Panasonic G(x)s (unless we have hocked them) so we will be able to take nice shots of the soup kitchens on Wall Street, and the tramps rummaging through the odd-bins in what is left of Harrods in Oxford Street.
