If there are any other knitters out there, they will recognize this as a sock toe, which must be closed using the dreaded Kitchener stitch, the prospect of which is enough to send one looking for any excuse to procrastinate, such as contriving photographic poses for said sock toe for posting in one's online knitting portfolio. (Stop sniggering, Rob. I can hear you sniggering. I'll have you know the Kitchener stitch is really, really hard. At least for me, and a couple of other people I know. Well, nobody I actually know, but I'm sure there are some out there. People like me, I mean. Who are perceptually challenged.) Anyhow, I shot this with the macro, and it posed some problems in PP, so I thought I would share it with you, too. I am thinking my DOF may be too thin, and the OOF band of orange may be a distraction. I know the reds are clipping. I tried to compensate by pulling back on the exposure when the recovery slider had no more where to go; the RAW image looked okay, but the JPEG went too dark, so I restored the original exposure. Other than those two things, what more can be done to control clipping? Any and all comments welcome.

If there are any other knitters out there... enough to send one looking for any excuse to procrastinate... Stop sniggering, Rob. I can hear you sniggering. I'm not sniggering. I was considering banning you for reminding me of the difficulty of getting a decent knitter in my part of the world. For months now I've been nagging my significant other (nag, nag, nag, nag, nag) to get the needles out and knit some winter jumpers for my teddies. In fact, I'm starting to think she put you up to this. Women! 140111_3296-copy by rob marshall images, on Flickr Have I had any success? Huh! you might as well ask if war is ever going to stop in the world. So in a way I'm pleased to see you knitting, but just wish you would turn your attention to something more important! I like the colours in your shot. I like the clever way you have used the crossed needles as a rule-of-thirds grid - but shouldn't it cover the whole shot? ;D So, what about it then - teddy jumpers? Are we on?
