Just a quick edit to find my way around Gimp using layers and mask.A somewhat different way of going about doing the job at hand. f/8@1/250 sec,ISO 100,200mm After previewing it seems to show some halos on the darker parts of the image.Will have to get a better handle of the unsharp mask as it's not quit the same as photoshop.

Try High Pass if it is available...do the blend mode as overlay.
What lens is that?

It was the 55-200mm lens.Was using it hand held sitting on the dock.Will let you know if I find a high pass filter in Gimp.

You have exposed this well, as it would had been very easy to burn things out in this image, plus you have made the seagull stand out against that light sky. Not sure about all of that sky thou, and wondered if the image would be stronger as a landscape.
