I am trying to make a theme on black and white portraits and I am struggling how to make all of them coherent in terms of treatment. My problem is that I change too often my method of work because I am attracted by different options and sets. I must - must - make my mind. I can't go on like this.

This is another great portrait from you, sharp with good detail in face with nice soft lighting, although you could had just brightened the eyes a tad. It is just a pity that the other boy was so close to him behind.

He was waiting for me to take his photograph.

have you tried bringing the exposure down on the background to darken it off?
is there an icon on here to show whether the op lets us know if we can edit pics or not?

Yes Dave I do have tried to bring the exposure down at the background but I couldn't do anything about it. The shirt is white as you can see in the original version from the raw file I post here. - Here, there is no icon for that purpose. If you wish to manipulate my image please, be my guest. I am going to learn something for sure. I could even send you the original file through Dropbox but that would be to ask too much ;D -

heres a quick edit, bit difficult on the low res file to get it totally right, just an idea to make it more focused, using 2 exposure layers, one set to overlay on the blend mode and one to normal so i didnt get a bland grey flood I think it may look better if i eased back off the blacks a little, but you get the idea

is there an icon on here to show whether the op lets us know if we can edit pics or not? Dave that facility is not a default for the forum template but I will see what I can do. Our FSC Guidelines state; As a photography forum it is likely that other members will occasionally modify your images as a means of aiding the original poster. This is assumed to be a default position. If you do not wish others to modify your work for demonstration purposes please state this clearly in your original post.
If any member simply does not want any of his/her images to be modified (and I understand that completely) it may be best for them to add that request to their signature
