Good lighting on the structure against the dark sky, I will have to go back and check some of my photos from this place.

i added this sky as the sky was pretty featureless and put a dark sky in to bring out the structure, trouble is it takes about an hour or more to add the sky in properley

I was just about to note you'd added a different sky when you made your post...direction of the sun in the sky, while close to the right angle is just a wee bit too side on to make the shadows on the structure...but only a picky old toot like me who has looked at thousands of student artworks would probaly ever notice.

Dave, the image of the posts had a feature of black sky accentuating the castle that I was unsure about. With this image I can see exactly what you are trying to do and it works wonders here. The unusual thing with this one is that it is effectively 2 images but I think that works really well in this case. I am interested in the structure on the left. Is it some kind of gin winding gear either for an incline or the pit head? Very unusual.Stop Press: just looked up the Magpie. it is replica gin winding gear

Just checked my photos, I see that you have flipped the image. Not that it distracts anything - in fact I prefer it your way

thanks all, does this edit help with the direction of the light in the sky?

Most definitely. Light makes sense now.
