Not been here for quite a while now. We had the usual trip to the UK for xmas, and my in-laws live close to Eastbourne, so I could resist a trip to the pier on a clear cold day. These are some of the results...hope you like them. The full Pier. Man on the Pier Pier Walkway Pier Symmetry View from the Pier

Any suggestions for improvements for #2 and #3? Is it the image...composition, POV or the processing?

Looks like its simply a case of flat light due to diffused light through cloud cover to me Rob. If there is enough tonal range and contrast then conversion to b/w can often be the only solution. B/w works well with flat lighting conditions. The perspective is also foreshortened in No 2 and I don't think that helps the case. No 3 has good lead in with the walkway but it is an unbalanced image (in contrast to No 4). The rest are really well done and I love the last one...an excellent aspect and fine conversion.

Ahh - that is probably me, I have flattened the image through over processing the shadows (particularly below the pier). Thanks for the heads up No 3 has good lead in with the walkway but it is an unbalanced image Agree to disagree

For me I'm liking your first and last image, I feel the monochrome versions seem to have far more detail and I like the atmosphere in the last one with the sky and waves.

Well done Rob, I like all of them compositionaly. My only issue that has not been mentioned....likely my own issue..lol is in the first image. The pole that runs out the top of the image made me feel it cut the image off right there. I do not know what this pole was but I am thinking I would have not been distracted by it if it were shortened to within the frame.

I have done the edit to remove the flagpole and updated the image both here and on Flickr - Thanks Paul, good call.
