I just had to try the Wolf conversion method I adapted for GIMP again. You will have to help me out with objectivity here guys. I am out of my comfort zone with landscapes. Scene is near St Margaret's at Cliffe, Kent Best viewed on black..just click the image to view on black background in the light box

I like the rolling hillside with those hay bails, and the cutting lines are leading your eye up the hillside towards that big cloud. Now going back to those bails, they all have good separation between them except for the lower middle one, I would clone out the bail behind it. The other thing is the sky, although I like that big white cloud, I did feel that it was a tad too central, although the sky as a whole is great.

Thanks Barry much appreciated. That bale sticks out like a sore thumb now that you mention it. I knew something did not feel quite right about the composition..and it is that cloud. It think I will rework this one. I like the rolling fields dotted with bales and I feel sure I can do more with this.

I think you can work the blacks a little heavier between the "row" lanes and I would darken the sky right at the horizon line, more heavily on the left than right side..sort of push that cloud a bit more to the right. A little down-toning on the whitest part of the cloud, and bingo, by jove, i think you have it.
I would love to find a scene like that, but alas, no hills in these here parts.

Steve, If it where mine I'd be a happy bunny. Just for kicks - take a square crop and put it up the top of the frame. Then do the same for the bottom. There you go - two extra images - no extra work!

I think you are right Chris. The darkening of the sky more evenly at the horizon is a must. I thought I may have got away with that. But it actually looks pretty raggedy when I view in the Flickr light box. One advantage of the UK being a smallish island/s in the north you are never far from hills and mountains and the furthest you can possibly get from the sea is 80 miles. The south Downs, being chalk Downs have particularly distinctive and rolling structure to them. Britain's diversity in landscapes within so small a country never ceases to amaze me.

Cheers Nick. The lower crop you suggest was actually the original presentation...only in colour. I never considered the top crop but I do believe it would work. I can see I may need to make some computer time available to have a play around with this lot.

Steve, very much like the image and agree with Barrys suggestions. There is a bail behind the one just to the left as well. ;D Look forward to seeing the re-work.
