Caught me out - I was expecting snow and ice, not GMT. This is the first time I have seen this place.

With all the snow I've heard about in the UK, you surprised me, too. I love big droopy trees! er, this isn't the main visitor's entrance, then?

Sorry Katy, this an old one I came across whilst marooned inside because of the snow. This shot is taken from behind the Maritime Museum looking up the hill towards the Observatory with Blackheath Common and the entrance beyond.

This shot taken from the Observatory looks down on the Museum and I was standing just in front of the central white building. There are some familiar London landmarks for you Johnny Foreigners to spot in the background.

Don't you know....I'd have to vacation in the UK for years to explore everything that I'm dying to see....

Don't you know....I'd have to vacation in the UK for years to explore everything that I'm dying to see.... The tragedy is that so many of us UK residents haven't seen the joys of our country either, and we happily swan off to all points of the compass blissfully unaware of what we are missing. So where am I going by car in a few weeks time? Austria, via France Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, and back via Germany and France. Need I say more!!

Yes it is a great British trait admiring someone elses views I think the big problem these days is that unless you are willing to travel to Britain's wild places in winter the views are so stuffed with fluorescent goretex, lycra, jet skis and Centre Parcs that it ceases to be a sanctuary and assumes all the traits of a suburban cul-de-sac on a Sunday afternoon. So traveling to Austria, via France Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, and back via Germany and France (you are not a lost member of Easy Company by any chance are you?) seems highly appealing.

IMO the UK has far more to offer in the way of photo opportunities/sq mile than here in France. You only have to travel 10miles to see a completely different countryside/seaside - just not enough time...
I enjoyed so much going back to the UK this xmas, as I have only had a camera just over a year, and I am now trying to catch up on all the images I missed when I lived there! Impossible task, but fantastic fun trying!!!

I enjoyed so much going back to the UK this xmas, as I have only had a camera just over a year, and I am now trying to catch up on all the images I missed when I lived there! Impossible task, but fantastic fun trying!!! I guess the grass is always greener as they sort of say, whoever 'they' are. I just love travelling in Europe, mostly because of the wide open spaces and comparatively empty roads. Maybe it's because I'm relaxed, being on holiday, that I also see more p.o.s or is it because we all get too close to our subject during the daily grind? Not a member of anything Steve, just love to drive off into the sunset!! I drove to Poland in a white van not that long ago, and that was memorable. I've also promised myself a drive to Stockholm to see my nephew and his family once I retire. But then I do live in Clacton on Sea, so regular escape is essential.

I like your second shot, great sky, and I reckon with a bit of levels adjustment, you could add a bit more punch into those foreground greens.

Thanks Barry. You right of course but for some reason I actually chose to tone the greenery down to give a muted look overall. Probably a mistake.
