Continuing my learning of how to do twilight photography. The moon was playing peek-a-boo with the clouds, so I missed out on the balanced light just after moon rise. C&C please – thanks for looking #1 #2 #3 #4

Beautiful shots Nick. What are the lights in #2? Hard to pick a best or favorite. Very well done!

I liked #2 but I had a hard time getting a feel for the time of night...was the sun all the way down and moon up, or sun partially up and moon up, or no moon at all...just felt like it needed more "darkness" in the foreground to help the light on the castle work better and to justify the amount of light in the upper right quadrant. So, of course, what else...I played a little...as always, it is just another eye's view of someone else's work.

The time of taking was about 5:30 pm. That is about 40 mins after both sun set and moon rise. The Twilight is to the right side (west) and is the main source of light. However the moon is not yet visible as it hidden behind low cloud - but is lit by sunlight passing over the top of the cloud. In turn that gave a wonderful defuse light from the left (east). I too had difficulty understanding how to make things look the right sort of dark. Sadly I have no excuse since I was there.

Here is my redo of #2. I've cropped it a little tighter and tried to make it more nightish. I have to say that I'm writing this having seen Chris's version for the first time - and mine is spookely similar.

I meant to comment on this one the other day, out of this set I preferred image 2, with the shoreline leading my eye up to the castle, then I wander back to the seat and up those steps, making for a very pleasing image, so I though it would be stronger by just including those parts of the image in my crop.
