This works really well Nick although I think the first may benefit from seeing a little more of the stem...not too much though. There are also a few light 'smudges' that could be cloned or smudged out.
The form of the second image is good but again it would benefit from tidying up the lighter areas top right.

Your two edited version are so much better, as you do need to know that there is a stem there, otherwise the flower head is just floating within the image.
