Went out for a walk yesterday afternoon, up onto a mountain known as Fan Frynych in the Brecon Beacons. The sun was out, making for a muddy walk at low level, due to the heavy frost melting in the sun, but as we ascended the ground got firmer, both of these images were taken as we got closer to the summit. 1 Nikon D700, f13, 1/500, ISO200, Sigma 24-70f2.8 at 48mm 2 Nikon D700, f10, 1/500, ISO200, Sigma 24-70f2.8 at 46mm

Both just give a thrill, Barry, because of the beautiful light. In the first one, I wish that I could just read the textures a bit better on the lower third of the image. On the second, the ice is so tactile, I almost want to lick it. but, then....ah, no!

Beautiful images and a beautiful place to walk. I love the sun peaking through the branches and it just looks cold! Ice is just plain pretty, isn't it?

Good light on both these shots. Great exposure control on the first, with good shadow detail and a mighty fine twinkle from the sun through the tree. I like the composition on this one also The shapes and the light just draw me in. The second was a good spot, looks like you have had freezing rain there, with just enough warmth to release the ice from the wire. Good un-fussy background that still tells you about the location.

Barry - a quick question please. I am so impressed how you got the sun directly into the camera through the trees, with a super starburst to boot.
Did you have any lens flare with this, if so how did you take it out in pp?

Hi Rob, I find f13-f18 gives a good star-burst effect with any light source. I managed to shade out any flair with my hand above the lens, so no PP work was needed, I'm not always this successful at not recording lens flair, just very lucky this time.

That first one is a beauty for sure. Did you do much PP work to it. I can't work out if it looks tonemapped a bit??

That first one is a beauty for sure. Did you do much PP work to it. I can't work out if it looks tonemapped a bit?? Well spotted, I did a bit of Tonal Contrast instead of sharpening and masked out the sky so that it was not effected, as I felt it suited this image.
