On a very hot Summers day in Montlucon, we came across this stunning bit of architecture (IMO) with tri-colore flags flying, and expected it to be a local government building, but found it was a cinema! I guess it was originally a theatre by the words "TRAGEDIE, MUSIQUE et COMEDIE" above the oval windows.

It is a beautiful building! and, I always dig a trendy place like this - fun! Rob, why is the sky so dark in this? Am I asking an obvious question? Why did you take it from this angle? The little funky door is showing on the side of the steps but, maybe, there was something else you were avoiding? Also, the roofline looks like that charming french roofline but you've cut it off? It's still a nice image - just curious.

Very cool building. So many interesting lines and detail. Wonder how old it is. Katy, I'm still a first grader compared to you guys ,but I'm going to take a guess on the color of the sky. I am sure Rob will turn us on to whats goin on here. I'm thinking maybe a polarizing filter and/ to maybe help with shooting this white/bright of a building as I dont really see any blown out areas. Would love to see this building at night.

They knew how to build buildings in those days, so much detail and they must had taken pride in what they were building. And you have recorded it well, as already said it would had been nice to see more of it, but maybe this was not possible, with whatever kit you had with you that day.

You are right about seeing more, but I was pushed back against another building to get this shot. To the right are some modern buildings that I didn't want in shot, it was this magnificent facade I was after catching. I darkened the sky to keep attention on the building - the sky was cloudless and boring anyway . @ Joe, not a polarising filter, but if I had one to fit this lens, it would have been , and the final effect would have probably been the same.

It certainly makes the showcase in Derby look a bit plain ;D
