As we had friends over the weekend who had never been to Wales, we took them for a drive up around the Elan Valley, where I still managed to get a few shots myself. Nikon D700, f18, 1/80, ISO200, Sigma 24-70f2.8 at 46mm.

Barry, what great detail you have achieved here. I like the image. It feels as if it could benefit from a slight clockwise rotation.

You could be right about the horizon, I can't remember checking it.

Barry, I'm still thinking.... but, I think that it looks like it needs a rotation because the tower thingy is leaning. I keep coming and looking at this.... Firstly, I think that I've seen a picture of this area before but can't quite place it but that doesn't matter, does it. I think the biggest thing is that the tower seems crowded in the composition. I think it would have been great if you could have levitated up and to your left over the water so that you were above the wall and could get more of the line of the road (maybe) and more space for the tower to stand out. is there such a thing as a camera bag/jet pack? Also, it seems like the atmosphere is lacking a little but, then, again, I look and the light looks lovely and there are clouds and, so, think that I'm wrong. Then, again, am I being a curmudgeon??? What do you think about it, Barry? You know what you're doing more than I do.... I really am curious to know what you think about it. Also, once again, it looks like a wonderful spot and I enjoy being an 'armchair' traveler. It also makes me think that, Wow! I need to get out more and go places and do things! How I wish I had a vehicle! Ah well...

Katy, I can see what you mean about getting a bit more separation between road and tower, I will have another look the next time I'm up that part of the world. You have probably seen a lot of this area from Rob Marshall.

Barry, I really am quite interested to know what you think about it. Landscape is not my forte at all. I can observe the leading lines, S shapes and depth to the composition - beautiful clarity and subtle colors and I know that those are all good things. but... Still, though, I really do wonder what you think about it.

Still, though, I really do wonder what you think about it. To be honest this was the first time I had been out with the camera for a few weeks, as I had been busy digging up our drive, so I was dying to press that shutter button at whatever I saw, and this was our first stop after the visitors centre. Also this was taken at around midday, so lighting was not at it's best, but I still wanted to press that button. So getting back to this image, I wanted to make use of the curvy road, but looking at it now I think I should had stood up on the wall, this way I could had made better use of the road to lead your eye into the image, plus the tower would had better separation. If I had waited about 5 hours, the sun would had been lower giving some longer shadows on those trees and tower, which would had given the image more depth. So my conclusion is that it could had been a better image, taken at another time. But I had been waiting to long to press that button

Thanks, Barry! And, oh, how I know what you mean... I've been working on putting some things back together from the house project and just haven't been able to get to my camera. When it rained, I just couldn't resist going out there and I was so happy to be at it, again - I could barely slow myself down! and ;D
