That's really bizarre but beautiful but bleak. But, it's just too amazing - the weather.... is it for real? Do I want to know? ;D I have to think about the composition for a bit.... it's very creative. Something's up with it and I can't tell what. Hmmmm, Barry, the link doesn't work and I thought I'd just be clever and google it myself but I can't figure out what a twistleton scar is - I'm very curious to know.

Hello Dave I like all kinds of photography, but when it comes to visceral responses I'll go for the desolate and blighted every time. Muted hues, or landscapes stripped of colour to reveal the bones and textures underneath - that does it for me every time. So yes, I very much like 'The Erratic' That rock is not sitting ageless and balanced, but seems about to fall, which gives the scene a nice sense of tension. And the deep cleft looks as if it had been gouged out by a giant's knife. Everything adds to break the peace and makes you wonder what might happen next. Well, that's how I see it, and I always love the way that each viewer brings their own meaning to images. I was catching up with everyone’s photos a few days before I rejoined the group, and ‘Hanging in there’ made me think about the nature of reality in photos. In the end, all photos are ‘fake’ on so many levels. 3D must be flattened to 2D, and all the sensory input from the day must be reduced to visual stimuli alone. I’m not keen on the work of David LaChapelle, but he said “ People say that photographs don’t lie, mine do”. And this combines in my mind with variations of the quote about a beautiful lie slain by an ugly truth. And in truth I often much prefer beautiful lies, like yours Cheers, Seri

The irratics are boulders that were dragged down from the mountains by glaciers and dumped there a long time ago, they're not the same rock as the limestone pavement, they are scattered all over the place, this is a reworked image from a year and half ago, I've updated the link to work

Seri, I'm in this to make Art not record shots, if a sky needs to be replaced then I'll do it, trouble is people start to think everything you do is completely fake so you do loose a little credit when a lot of the time the pic was straight lol and I've only ever completely faked a pic like 'hanging in there' twice!

Dave, I can understand your frustration. Photography is indeed done for different reasons, and your photos are clearly art. I know that people have widely differing views on this, but coming from an arts background, I don't have a single problem with how an image is achieved. I'm not a purist. People constantly change things in their paintings, and in photography creativity is applied both before and after the shutter button is pushed. I see it as a great pity that some photos should be seen as less valid simply because they are composites or the like. And I think that the word 'fake' has little meaning, in the end. Cheers, Seri

Nothing aimed at you at all ;D The thing about the composition... it's just so interesting that it's very panoramic... only, vertically. Different is good! I think, also, that I'm wishing for a bit more ping on the lighter side of the tone curve but, Dave, this is a place where I doubt my discernment; so, you would know better.... just thoughts!

I love those grikes and clints and you do a great job of capturing the atmosphere up there...composite or not. This is about presenting your view of the world , not faithful capture. In any case it is only Goretex fetishists and weird beards who will be pained by lack of topological accuracy regardless that the biggest blot on the landscape is there own unearthly yellow Helly Hansen cagoule. ;D

I like it, but I did wonder if the gap in the limestone pavement needed to be a bit more off centre.
