Got up at 03:30 this morning as it was supposed to be a good opportunity to try my luck at a new location – Alnwick Castle. The (nearly) full moon and the rising sun where supposed to be at about right angles – and shining on either side of one of the castle elevations. Well …. that was the plan. I got myself into position over an hour before sunrise – in the hope that I could get a dawn / moonlight shot. Sadly a small amount of cloud covered the moon and made it ineffective. Thus #1 #1 Just after sunrise, I started to see a glimmer of warmth in the light as the sky got lighter very quickly – should have used a GND filter. Thus #2 #2 A half hour later, and nearly an hour after #1 was taken, the sun finally cleared the surrounding hills. The light only lasted about 5 minutes before the sun got obscured behind some cloud. But it was sweet while it lasted! Thus #3 #3 The short period of sunshine put up a good blue sky and streaks across the foreground grass so here they are in #4 #4 Hope you enjoyed – C&C please – and thanks for looking.

What a great looking castle Nick! It always amazes me,,,no matter how many times I see it...how a good sunrise or sunset can change the colors. Your images show this well. It is funny, you can tell those that are not all to familar with these times of day or night, they either think you have pushed the color or something to that effect.
Nice work Nick

Maybe a bit less contrast on the next to last image. I used the GDN control in the RAW editor both at the top and bottom to try to push the emphasis more toward the castle and less to fore and backgrounds..I think in retrospect, I would perhaps leave the fore alone or mask what I've done at 50% and keep the gnd sky...so hard to tell, but it certaily keeps my mind working.
