I think it's the soft light filtering in from the top left. This was just at the leading edge of the storm you've seen coming across the bay.

I like soft light. Just be careful not to point the camera much at the sun. Great shot, Chris.

Camera wasn't close to being pointed at the sun..remarkably, the light was so softly filtered through the lower clouds, it just seems that way.
