How on earth did you get that close to a wild turkey Rie??
Camouflage gear and animal droppings smeared over you?

She was very beautiful. I had such a time capturing the irridescent quality of the feathers.

Dear Steve, At first I was being politically correct and trying not to offend anyone by omitting how the feathers were obtained. But, tough &*&^*^*. It is a fact of life here and culturally correct here. It is turkey hunting season here. In the fall, you can bag only one turkey of either sex for the season. Pete bagged this female on what I call a "gimme shot". A big flock of at least 20 were walking through the pasture no more than 20 yards away. It was a no-brainer. On birds like this, the only real edible part is the breast meat, which although was small on this female (2 lbs total meat), is now in the freezer. Barry, the tail feathers are the most beautiful part of the turkey. Pete salvaged that portion for me for later work. 'Rie

I guessed that might be the case Rie. As a country boy I am quite familiar with bird shooting. Although we don't have any wild turkeys and prefer to shoot the flying type. The motto on the local shoot I used to go on was "if it flies, it dies" All the meat was eaten so I figure it's a perfectly natural thing going on. However, when the kids came along, I was uncomfortable with having guns in the house so they had to go (the guns, not the kids ) Is the meat for thanksgiving? or will you need a much larger bird for that?

Steve,
No, that tiny bit of breast meat is destined for something fancy - something with a reduced cranberry and wine sauce I am thinking. There is not enough meat for the crew that meets for the holiday.
