I've worked htis image fifty different ways to Sunday trying to get a good blend of a foggy feel yet retain the detail and tonality of the sailboat. At first, I liked the left hand image, but recalling an old technique of using a layer blend inversion and mask, I was able to get the detail and keep the mist. It still may require a bit more reduction in the blend and perhaps a bit of bump to the contrast levels...old dogs love new tricks.

You are on the right track Chris. The colour and detail is less inyerface in the second one and seems to make it look more realistic.

Took it one step further this morning and I think it's the cat's meow.
