Don't you start as well. It's bad enough with Wirefox continually banging on about the North as if it's Shangri-la, with Orwell crouched behind every stone wall, and 'true men', thin as their whippets, discoursing in twangy vowel dialect on the perils of venturing any further south than Derby. Which they never do. ;D The images! Yes... I like the compositions in #1 and #3 (and it's so good to see you have white-line machines now up north). The last one has a very nice upward sweep on that tree, but I'm longing for more at the bottom (it's a southern 'nancy' thing ) BTW Do you need a new kitchen? (Put it back Mr Webb)

Like all but especiallyliked this one but wonder if a little darker foreground - more left than right - and a slightly deeper sky would help. It kills me that this looks so much better in PS than when it transfers to here via flickr..but it is what it is.

In fact I spent the day on the tube. There is also a congestion charge for ferrets...whether they were down the front of my trousers or otherwise and it is pretty congested down there . As for old George he was nowt but a Eton educated Burmese police constable with a tripe fetish...If you really want an insight to northern life...read the walls in the lavatories. Very good set this Nick and perfectly suited to black and white. More please

Gosh, it's almost a week since I posted these – sorry I've not responded to your kind comments. Thanks to Rob, Chris, Paul, Steve, and Steve, for taking the time to post your thoughts. …. The images! Yes... I like the compositions in #1 and #3 (and it's so good to see you have white-line machines now up north). The last one has a very nice upward sweep on that tree, but I'm longing for more at the bottom (it's a southern 'nancy' thing ) BTW Do you need a new kitchen? (Put it back Mr Webb) … yes Rob – things are advancing at a huge pace up here. We only got blacktop last year – and now they have it all nicely painted already. Sorry about the tree – it's the fault of our very own teach. He kept giving me a hard time about over use of the wide angle. Next time I'll give that a go when he's not looking. Oh yes, I do need a new kitchen – I want the one back that I had before Thea had her hips fixed. Now she's mobile (well enough to do damage), things have be arranged more “logically”. As a result I've gone from not being able to find most things – to being able to find absolutely nothing. Such is progress. @chris, Thanks for the suggestions – I think my master image will benefit from them – just helps the balance. As for jpegs and the internet – well. Last time I researched the jpeg standard – about 100 years ago – I found that there is no standard. Or to be more precise there are about 40 of them and they get used interchangeably when clearly they are not interchangeable – since they are different. On that basis it's not surprising that the meta data tags are given such a “liberal” interpretation. Best to think of jpegs as a work in progress and not the finished article.
