I'm pretty sure this was taken on the same trip as the Mystical Light shot. It was one of my first forays into digital photography.

I didn't venture too far from the roadway...fossils, yes, Rattlesnakes, double yes and I had no chaps with me.

I have some pics that can't have been taken far from this. I have been to Wounded Knee and drove up through Badlands back to Rapid City.

Thanks, Janis. It's the processing in the Badlands that makes the shot. Generally, out of camera is pretty droll but a couple of well aimed whacks in curves makes it all come alive.

Kinda wish I could decipher those layers in the rock. That lowest band of red makes me wonder if it's from the era of a super-oxygenated atmosphere
