Severely restricted by the cabin luggage weight allowance I was limited to my little Olympus XZ1 for a recent trip to Sweden, which is a pity as we visited some really interesting places. However, try this one for size, which I have posted elsewhere and received polarised and sometimes highly amusing reaction. So..?

I'm curious to know what the controversy is, as I think it's pretty terrific.

Me three. Nice composition, great conversion, superb detail in the wood.
One niggle, the top left pane of glass has something behind it which I keep looking at trying to see what it is but I can t work it out, maybe it should go? Not sure though, the hidden message thing is quite a pull.
Top drawer image Mike.

Interesting!! Thanks folks. This is an old farm in the south of Sweden that is now open as a tourist attraction (if you can find it). I saw this shot as soon as we arrived and visualised the black and white edit. The open joints, wonderful end grain timbers, and gnarled wooden wall planks contrasted so well with the white window, and the juxtaposition of the window with the diagonal of the protruding timbers seemed to balance so well. Comments received ranged from .. Why? (!!); Where's the story?; It lacks balance and bottom weighting. (This was accompanied by a mod which flipped the image 90 deg. anti-clockwise so that the protruding wall runs across the bottom of the image 'as an anchor for the eye', the boards and window run vertically - yes seriously) and these on a small specialist forum that is inhabited by 'advanced enthusiasts'!! Some would certainly benefit from reading Michael Freeman's excellent book 'The Photographer's Eye'. But what do I know, other than not a lot. Oh and yes I should do a little cloning on that window pane Steve.

You know, I was looking at that pane and it looked to me like a dog inside the structure

Great as is - some people are just idiots. The texture and pattern under the window provide balance to my eye. If you bumped the contrast in that area it might make some of the critics happier, but that's not really the important thing, is it?
